I love this so much! It just proves that the overt hateful bigotry we hear across the West is coming from a tiny but very loud fringe. Most Westerners are positive or indifferent about Israel and Jews.

Let's expose that and make that eliminationist hatred TABOO again, ostracizing it and the people who espouse it to the fringes of our polite societies (as we did to marginalize the KKK) before it appears tolerated and then becomes normalized.

What a lovely write-up. The world is less awful and more normal than it seems. I'm so grateful for the opportunity to focus on Eurovision last week: it helped break a spell of morosity.

Glad to see it. I’ll admit, as an older, Nirvana and Iggy Pop loving American I find it confusing. But I find almost everything confusing at this point.

Last week I was visiting my friend and his four children, the eldest is 10, and they played Kpop demon hunter(s?) for me. I realized that I have no fucking clue what is cool and I’m so goddamned glad I don’t need to.

So good job Israel, I would describe myself as a zionist goy, but please don’t hate me if I never want to hear another track from eurovision. Love ya!

Kpop demon hunters is half of my running playlist rn. But there’s some Nirvana and Aerosmith in there too! 😂 -Y

It sounded as though the song was in French so, that might have helped a little!

It’s a mystery to some of us Europeans how any country geographically outside Europe is allowed to enter. Israel isn’t really a part of Europe but neither is AUSTRALIA (for goodness sake)! Or Morocco. Or Turkey. Or Tunisia. Or Egypt. Or Azerbaijan. Let’s not mention how annoying all those little Balkan states are…..

Israel has often quietly been accepted as part of Europe culturally, so I’ve no objection at all. But does it really want to go through this harrowing political mess, since the organisers seem incapable of controlling politically partisan voting?. It’s a shame but the whole thing has degenerated recently into a mish-mosh of exhibitionism and middle-Eastern music.

Hasn't political voting has always been part of it? I remember Terry Wogan predicting which countries would give their top votes to other countries based on geographical location and political stuff - usually rightly! I think it was actually one element people in Britain quite liked because we never did well and so, roasting the whole competition is a good way of coping!

This was such good news - thank you so much! Felt so good to read it! I can fight the other stuff - I'm not sinking into gloom or anything, but - good news feels good... :-)
