We hopped on to record with a heavy heart this morning, after hearing the devastating news of the murder of 6 Israeli hostages in Hamas captivity: Carmel Gat, Ori Danino, Almog Sarusi, Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Alex Lobanov and Eden Yerushalmi. They managed to survive 11 months, only to be executed somewhere between Thursday and Friday by their captors.
We “knew” all 6 of them. We knew their faces, stories, their families.
Ori managed to escape the Nova Festival on 10/7 and turned around to save strangers in his car before he was captured.
Alex became a father while he was hostage and never got to meet his son.
Eden was studying to become a Pilates instructor.
Carmel gave yoga lessons to some of the kids while they were being held captive.
Almog stayed by his girlfriend when she was injured on 10/7 refusing to leave her side, she died and he was captured.
Hersh’s arm was blown off by Hamas, and his parents have been traveling the world pleading with anyone who would listen to bring them home.
We're angry, sad, contemplative, fearful - and thought you might want to join us through this ride. You won’t find any answers or somoene to blame on this one (aside from Hamas) but hope it will still give you some comfort. Share your thoughts in the comments if you like.
We’re also mourning the loss of three police officers who were killed in a drive-by shooting near Hebron this morning: Superintendent Arik Ben Eliyahu, Chief Superintendent Hadas Barantz, and Senior Sergeant Major Roni Shkuri. Sergeant Major Shkuri was the father of First Sergeant Mor Shkuri, who fought bravely and lost her life on the battle for the police station in Sderot on October 7th. Too much pain to go around.
Love you two. Thanks for this.
Well said. I too felt like I did on 10-8. I saw the news before I went to sleep, and, as you can imagine, I didn't sleep well. I am heartbroken and angry.
