This was a great episode! I love how you guys can interview people I consider heavyweights (Yossi Klein Halevi & Rabbi Wolpe are other examples), and they become putty in your hands!

Potential solution to the divide between Haredim and secular Israelis: national podcasting service. Young Haredim are matched up with non-Haredi Israelis and they run an Ask A Jew-style podcast together, where they’re able to discuss matters of Israeli society from different perspectives and establish bonds and understanding between Haredi communities and non-Haredi communities.

I had no idea I needed this pod in my life. I owe a debt to the guy who sent me here. Great stuff.

I enjoyed the conversation very much. Dr. Berkowitz (or, does he go by Peter?) was terrific.

Obviously, there has been a long running conversation about requiring Haredi Jews to serve in the Israeli military. Or, at least be required to participate in a national service program.

I would take this a step further and I would love to hear input: I think Arab Israelis - both Muslims and Christians - should be required to serve as well. (They could alternatively chose to serve in a national service program). It has been stated that potentially Arab Israelis were granted this exemption because they might have to fight other Arabs. But, there is no exemption for Circassians and Druze in Israel who also have members of their communities in nations in conflict with Israel. Israel is 75 years old. It is time for all citizens to have the same expectations and requirements.

It is a shared obligation that should apply to all age-appropriate Israelis. It could contribute to national unity across backgrounds, reduce the length of service (as the pool of military member would be larger), and create more long-term professional connections for everyone.
