We are back with Rabbi Aba Perlmutter to answer all your burning questions.
He actually wanted to talk about laughter, but being the serious pundits that we are, we went straight to abortions. The orthodox take might surprise you.
We also get some spiritual guidance on how not to hate our fellow man (even though they can be really annoying), discuss why we should hold the center and love our country, why we don’t need a Jewish president (or king), Chaya Leah’s royal aspirations, what the rabbi thinks about Meghan and Harry, the Jewish view on divorce, the importance of shame, John Travolta, online communities vs. IRL communities, night terrors, and how to change your life (don't worry, he won't tell you to become orthodox).
Also, if you want to know the secret to a happy marriage, you’re going to get through a story about Carson Daly.
Here is the dumb whale show Chaya Leah is obsessed with:
Chaya Leah tries to convince us there is a whale holocaust by telling us there are 500,000 whale left in the ocean, which sounds like enough tbh.
Here is the Eichmann show Yael is obsessed with (not out yet in the US)
It’s not too late to send in your questions for America’s Worst Mom, the wonderful Lenore Skenazy! As a reminder, Lenore is the president of Let Grow, an organization that believes that when adults step back, kids step up. Controversial, right? Have questions? Email us at askajewpod@gmail.com or leave a comment below.
Also, some of you may know that in my day job I work with law enforcement. Here is an op-ed I published yesterday about crime in Newsweek. It’s not very funny.
Bonus pic of Shmuly (on the right) and his friends in Peru (not pictured: the private chef from last week’s episode).
Are you an anti-semite? No? Then why haven’t you subscribed and rated us on Apple Podcasts yet?
I really loved the episode. Rabbi Perlmutter has so much wisdom to share. I’m not a person of faith, but I’m not against faith and I am always grateful to hear from someone who has so much insight, discipline, humor and love. Thank you.
I love the photo of Machu Picchu. I never walked the Inka Trail (private chef or not), but I visited the site in 1984 when I was in high school and had spent the summer with an exchange program living with a family on the coast. That location is amazing and awe inspiring. I hope one day to return and take my family (probably again no private chef) but until then, I appreciate that others are getting the experience. Peru is an amazing place.
Wishing you continued success, love and laughter.
I just subscribed because I've been listening to your podcast for free and that seems wrong! I really enjoy your perspectives and I've learned a great deal about my own religion and culture from listening. I have a technical issue though. As is typical of we Jews, you guys are constantly interrupting each other and talking over one another. I wouldn't care, but I don't hear what's being said! This little idiosyncrasy would be endearing in person, but it doesn't work on a podcast. Also, one of you dominates the conversation and the other can't get a word in edgewise. Writing this makes me laugh, because I am typically the latter in conversations with other Jews, but like I said, it's frustrating on the podcast because I don't want to miss a word. Sending lots of love!
