I love all of your podcasts so don’t take this as a criticism--this episode was one of your best.

Great conversation. Therapy session?

I definitely got "therapy vibes" from Jonathan. It was unsettling, but also effective.

Jonathan has a lovely and soothing voice. He could read a phone book (remember those?) and it would calm me down. Except for the part when he said G-d is ridiculous and I had to fatwa him for a minute.

I love being reminded I'm not the oldest gay on Earth.

Yeah, I was about to jump in with a question but then I realized that a 40 minute conversation on gd wasn’t the plan. I really wanted to discuss it further with him!

I've done a round-trip from being very religious as a kid, discovering I knew everything at 30 and sneering down my nose at religious faith of any kind, and then being humbled and brought low as I've seen where that gets me. Even Sam Harris doesn't rule out an after life anymore.

An exploration of the meaning and purpose of faith would make a great stand alone episode!

there's one point that jonathan asks who is telling your average 19 year old what happened in 1948 and why it still matters, reminded me of this, which i just came across yesterday: https://sapirjournal.org/antisemitism/2023/08/letter-to-an-anti-zionist-idealist/
