Karmela Waldman may be a Holocaust survivor with a heartbreaking story, but the true victim of the Nazis is clealrly her son, Joel, as he tells us. The hilarious mother-son duo join the girls to talk about optimism, the true crime podcast they co host, Surviving the Survivor, and the book Joel wrote about his mother by the same name, which he calls a living eulogy, but she refers to as “A poor man’s Tuesdays with Morrie”.

Enough about the Holocaust, let’s talk about October 7th!
Half Holocaust survivor, half serial killer.
An uptick in antisemitism? Or an uptick in hating little old ladies?
Why do women like True Crime so much?
There are two kinds of women - those who are looking for a husband, and those who want to murder their husband.
We speak about the debate between Trump and Biden because we recorded this a few weeks ago, though it feels like a few years ago.
“This week in dead and dying”.
What I would say to the young Jewish kids out there:
There is a line from a somewhat unexpected source that I keep coming back to since October 7 - the ending of the Taylor Swift song “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” The line is “you’re on your own, kid, yeah, you can face this, you’re on your own, you always have been.” That line makes me think of the Jews. For thousands of years, we could never count on the idea that other people would always look out for us, so we’ve had to fight for ourselves. We’ve been through a lot, but we’ve always overcome it. And in spite of the hardships, because we have had to look out for ourselves, we’ve achieved a lot. We’ve gone through so much, and it has been so tough, and far too often, others let us down. But no matter what, they can’t take away what it means to be a Jew, that driving force that brings us together and encourages us to keep going. Am Yisrael Chai.
The other piece of advice? Sit back, pretend you’re watching an episode of a comedy show, and laugh at the absurdity of the situations we seem to find ourselves in.
Great discussion and everyone interviewing everyone else! Definitely the funniest Holocaust episode, SO FAR.
Love you all!
