What I would say to the young Jewish kids out there:

There is a line from a somewhat unexpected source that I keep coming back to since October 7 - the ending of the Taylor Swift song “You’re On Your Own, Kid.” The line is “you’re on your own, kid, yeah, you can face this, you’re on your own, you always have been.” That line makes me think of the Jews. For thousands of years, we could never count on the idea that other people would always look out for us, so we’ve had to fight for ourselves. We’ve been through a lot, but we’ve always overcome it. And in spite of the hardships, because we have had to look out for ourselves, we’ve achieved a lot. We’ve gone through so much, and it has been so tough, and far too often, others let us down. But no matter what, they can’t take away what it means to be a Jew, that driving force that brings us together and encourages us to keep going. Am Yisrael Chai.

The other piece of advice? Sit back, pretend you’re watching an episode of a comedy show, and laugh at the absurdity of the situations we seem to find ourselves in.
