Interesting conversation. As a secular Israeli living in the states, I had simply assumed these organizations are purely religious, and avoided them like the plague.
I loved this interview and I have some thoughts. First, regarding security, it’s heartbreaking that us Jews have to fundraise to pay for our own security, not from other Jews but from all the Jew haters. I’m in Tel Aviv right now and sat next to Australian Jews. the other day. They said that after a synagogue was fire bombed, that the majority of Australians were disgusted by that act and felt like a line was crossed. Also, the Australian government gives the Jewish community money to cover the costs of security, even bullet proof glass. I’m curious why us Jews in the United States have to pay for our own security and if that’s something we should look into or do we want to keep away from the government ?
Second, I’m not an October 7th Jew but I am an October 7th Republican. I now feel like I don’t belong to the Reform community and I’m curious as to your thoughts on having yet another branch of Reform Judaism for REpublicans or is that just dividing us more? Or should we all become Chabad members?
