Christine is such a rockstar on Commentary! What a great episode (as usual) and I'm starting to think that Chaya Leah needs to write a book on relationships - I'll be the first to pre-order it!

If I had exclusively relied on my social media first impressions, I wouldn’t have found one of my closest friendships in university. When I saw this person’s posts in the Facebook group for students in my graduating class at university, I got the vibe that they seemed a bit annoying and not my type of person. A week later, I met them in person, and we had instant friend chemistry and quickly became close. I’m really glad I didn’t dismiss this person based on my first impression from behind a screen, because I would’ve missed out on knowing the real person.

WRT the Bullet Journal: I separate my day planner from my “journal” and I feel like the bullet journal method wants you to mash it all together, which I don’t care for personally.

I also felt like drafting the layout of the bullet journal (habit trackers, weekly or daily layouts, etc.) took so long that by the time I finished, I wasn’t motivated to actually write in it! I like having a habit trackers and setting goals for each month, but I prefer a more ad hoc style of journal writing, quote collecting, etc. during the rest of the month instead of sticking to the Bullet Journal Rules.

Right now, my journal has been unused since July, and I know it’s because I’ve had a lot of good and bad life events that I feel obligated to write about and I just don’t want to. 😬

Excellent podcast. I am also a daily Commentary Magazine podcast listener (and magazine subscriber).

Listened to you guys while trying to remember how to put up my sukkah. Loved the chemistry and (as always) loved having my podcast universes collide.

Ahh, that peer pressure they warned me about.

Okay, with the caveat that:

(1) this Jew lives in rural Louisiana and my sukkah is simple af (literal branches for my schach).

(2) I said putting it up in my comment and not “decorating”(that’s tomorrow evening)

(3) it’s nighttime and so I took a side photo with the flash on

(4) I’d rather show my congregation’s

Moleskines are a lovely but expensive addiction! Can also recommend the notebooks from Muji.

Is it a lady thing to have boxes (true in my case!) of notebooks with either one page used or saved for a ‘special’ project)?

I do like bullet journaling but don’t use the traditional method. I do prefer it to other planners though - I need to create my own layouts. It’s for everyone though.

A book you might be interested in is Mediated by Thomas de Zengotita - by an anthropologist about how the media shapes your world. Fascinating.
